Push Picks x OCT 27 17

Winter is here, son! I’m real pumped.

On Wednesday I was running around the mountains in a sports bra, and by Thursday afternoon the temps dropped down to the 30s and beautiful chunks of snow were falling from the sky. I love it so, so much. I wish I loved snow this much when I lived in Buffalo; I didn’t hate it, but I also didn’t see the magic in it like I do now.

Want to know what else I love? All the things in this episode of Push Picks. Let’s do this.

We’ve been over this already, but: SNOW.

I stood outside and let it fall on my face for a minute or so. Just listening and feeling. It was quiet and peaceful and then I got cold and headed back inside to wrap myself in a sweater that came straight from the dryer (I mean, is there a better feeling than that?!).

Apple cinnamon oatmeal.

I was totally oatmeal-ed out for the past couple weeks since I ate it every morning at every hotel on my drive from Tampa to Colorado, but when I got back from my run yesterday feeling like a human ice cube, it was all I wanted. I added some cashew milk to make it a little more creamy. Deeeefinitely better than Hampton Inn’s variety.

Stretchy pants.

More specifically: Athleta’s Chaturanga pants. The girls call them “chats” for short which, to me, sounds like when Gretchen Weiners was trying to make “fetch” happen…but it’s still fun to say out loud. Every time the store gets new products we have to do “fit sessions” where we try on the new clothes so we know how to talk about the items to customers (worst job ever, I know 😉 ), and when I slipped my hams into these babies, I wanted a pair in every single color. They are not great for running, but still comfy as hell.

Roasted pumpkin seeds.

They’ve always kind of grossed me out since I know what they look like and feel like pre-roast, but my cousin made some a couple nights ago with some salt, pepper, and cajun seasoning and I couldn’t stop eating them. New favorite snack for sure.

Trails. Oh, the beautiful trails.

I think this one will be on every Push Picks because…just look at it! I get to run here, with this incredible view, any time I want. How can you not feel all the feelings? It’s a damn gift to my soul.

Ali + Kara.

Ali from Ali On The Run is one of my favorite bloggers/writers/podcasters, and Kara is one of my favorite runners AND she lives in Boulder. So, we are almost neighbors. I listened to their conversation on my Thursday morning 8-miler and it was fantastic. Kara’s advocacy for clean sport is really amazing and her love for running made me smile the whole time. Give it a listen.

And that’s what I’ve got this week! Tell me your picks!

Also, one last note before I go…I realized that writing these is a really good exercise for my mental health. I think telling people what you love, what lights you up, what inspires you, what feeds your belly and your soul is like super healthy. What are you thankful for in your life, even if it is a bowl of oatmeal or a conversation about running? It’s like gratitude in a way. I dare you to try it with me each week.

As always: Push on, PUSH ANIMALS >>>

  1. Hello from a fellow Florida XC alum (Florida Tech ’12) living just down I-25 (and up a couple thousand feet) in New Mexico. I’m loving the fall this year, especially because it seems like fall doesn’t exist on the east coast anymore. Glad you’re enjoying the seasons out here too! Keep doing what you’re doing. And maybe put some more cold-weather running picks soon so I can build my Christmas list!

    1. We totally could’ve run against each other! I ran for The University of Tampa and graduated in ’12, too! So happy you are here 🙂 I was definitely excited to experience seasons again when I moved out here. I love your idea of cold-weather running picks. I’m on it!! Have a great weekend!
