The last one was a lot, wasn’t it? I feel like maybe I sent my parents into an early grave with my previous post. Yeah, I know it was heavy, but I like opening up for those who may need to hear it—and just maybe know they’re not alone? And I hope you felt the happy, too, because I am so happy out here. I love Colorado, I love the people, and I love that this place has brought me back to life.
Buuuut how about we lighten it up a little bit with the best thing I did all week: bike to work! I shouldn’t be so proud, though, because bike commuting here is a lifestyle and some people choose to not have a car in favor of two wheels. I love me some pedaling but they be cray.
To be honest, on Sunday, the first day I commuted to work, I didn’t have a choice. I don’t have a car right now, and even though the bus system is fantastic, they don’t run early enough to get me to work on time sooooo I loaded all my work things into my AWESOME Rapha backpack and hit the road. And, oh, did I mention it was TWENTY FOUR degrees that morning?! I wore almost all the layers I own and prayed for the best.
I biked to work every day when I lived in Florida. It was two miles and approximately 12 feet elevation gain. But that ride was also about one billion degrees and I sweated through everything I was wearing. I am definitely happier freezing than melting.
It only took one 10-mile commute and I was hooked, so I did it again on Monday. It warmed up to the 30s and I felt much more comfortable with my route. Then, because there was still a bit of daylight left, I took the long way on my commutes home. The mountains are right in my backyard, and it makes the ride that much sweeter.
I don’t know why it took me almost two months to start commuting this way. I made excuses, and not messing up my hair was one of them. Ew, I am the worst.
The biking culture is so rich out here. And maybe it feels extra potent because I work at Rapha, but I love that what I love to do is also something the city promotes and MOST of what the people love to do, too. Before I moved here, one of my Florida friends told me I wouldn’t find many group rides going on and that everyone rides alone…and boy was he wrong! There’s a group ride every day of the week leaving from somewhere; it’s not hard to find.
Now I just need to see about some new lights and we’ll be set for a new week of commuting.
What are you loving this week? Have a wonderful Friday and weekend, my friends.

Love this commute, showing up to work sweaty sucks. Anytime I bike to work this happens regardless of temps. It’s 11 miles one way, and LOTS of hills. Plus I just sweat easy.
So awesome that you commute by bike, too!! The sweaty thing definitely sucks…I know it’s coming in the summertime haha.
