What I’m Working On

Other than a few nights ago—when I was alone too long, when I was overtired, drowning in freelance deadlines, and missing my sweet little apartment in Florida—when I broke down in tears over failed relationships and the uncertain path I’m on now…

other than all that, I’m happy with where I’m at. Things have really turned around since moving to Colorado almost a year ago. And I’ll take a rough night here and there over the weeks and months of pain I endured before I moved—before I started fresh and decided to start forgiving myself for that big and painful failed relationship.

And, god damnit, it has taken me a really long time to say and even believe in that.

But I’m not perfect or healed. I’m still working on things. I think we’re all still working on things. We should be, right?

I thought about this one as I hit “RSVP” to one of our clubhouse events. Sometimes after a long day of work and people time, the last thing I want is more small talk and people time. It’s draining. But I wanted to go and I didn’t want that to stop me, so I hyped it up, told a bunch of friends I was going and it ended up being a great time.

I’m still searching for that delicate balance of biking and running and hiking and HIIT workouts each week. When I start to love one more than the others, the pendulum swings too far in one direction and my body fights me big time. I’ve been riding my gravel bike the most lately and my legs just don’t have enough time to recover before the next ride. I’m going to test out an biking-every-other-day-or-so schedule and see how that goes.

I didn’t move out here to ride the same routes, hike the same mountains, drink the same coffee every single weekend. When I first moved to Boulder, I heard people talk about the #BoulderBubble. I didn’t understand it until I spent several weeks in Boulder without leaving! Unless you’re going to the airport, you don’t really need to leave because there is so much to do. To escape a little, I’m trying new things outside of Boulder’s borders, whether it’s rides or hikes.

This past weekend I hiked a new trail and it was UN.REAL. I cannot wait to share!

OMG how long has it been since my last post? 😦 This space makes me happy, sharing it makes me happy, and looking back on this new life I’m living makes me happy. And that’s where I’m operating from these days, so I’m going to keep writing about it. I hope you’ll keep following along!

What are you working on these days?

  1. Working on making my house a Home! it’s a lot of work and stressful no matter how organized you are—moving sucks. Taking one day at time with no pressure to have a “perfect” living space from the start (I’m happy I have a couch so yay for not sitting on the floor!). Fitness and wellness took the backseat the past few months so I’m working on being more conscious with meal prep and fresh foods on hand. With some weight gain, I feel it when I run and that feeling has gotta go. One day at a time!!
